Project Brief

iScuela is a unified, multi-board School ERP system designed to centralize fragmented administration, academic scheduling, fee processing, and internal communication workflows. It integrates advanced constraint-satisfaction heuristic engines and conversational LLM queries.

The Problem

Operational Fragmentation

Educational institutions across CBSE and UK boards struggle with operational fragmentation. Staff spend hours compiling reports manually from disparate databases, schedule timetables with frequent teacher conflicts, and struggle to manage board-specific terminologies (e.g. Grade/Year, Section/Form) under single-tenant database designs.

The Solution

Unified Full-Stack Console

We engineered a hybrid Next.js 14 / NestJS system integrating PostgreSQL relational schemas with Firebase Realtime listeners. Crucially, we implemented: 1. Conversational report generation using Google Gemini AI, translating NLP questions into secure read-replica SQL queries on the fly. 2. A five-step conflict-free Timetable Scheduler. 3. Board-specific routing middleware.

Ask Me Anything (NLP Reports)

Intelligent database querying assistant allowing school directors to ask for statistics in natural language.

  • Orchestrates Google Gemini API using strict structured JSON schemas.

Design Decisions

Dynamic Route Mappings

Utilized Next.js App Router dynamic route groups like (boards)/[board]/[module] to implement CBSE/UK localization terminology seamlessly.

Relational-Realtime Hybrid DB

Integrated PostgreSQL for relational consistency (fees, student records) and Firebase for live states (real-time chat, indicators).

Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

Secured API endpoints and layout renders across 7 distinct user scopes (Super-Admin, Principal, Teacher, Student, Parent, Staff, Management).

Key Learnings

  • Multi-tenancy in App Router requires careful middleware-level board detection and localized cookie configurations.
  • Caching static master data (subjects, classes) via SWR prevents redundant database loads on client transitions.
  • LLM structured output routing must execute on a read-replica server scope to avoid query injection risks.
